木ノ葉 木菟, which means "leaf tree-hare", is the Japanese word for "screech owl".

This makes sense because obviously owls are just rabbits that live in trees. How did I not realize this before?

Is it bad that I read wikipedia articles in Scots and giggle? English needs more mutually intelligible languages that sound really funny.
